Book-keeper/SOLAS Cashier Required, Kinross

Due to an ever increasing workload, a great opportunity has arisen within By the Books Accounting Assistance Limited, based in Kinross. You will work as part of an experienced team providing quality assistance as an outsourced cashroom service to law firms of various sizes throughout Scotland.

Part time would be preferable (c. 20 hours) but we will also consider full time applicants dependent on experience.

Essential duties and responsibilities will include:-

  • Bank Reconciliations
  • Processing Daily Entries
  • Maintaining and Monitoring Client Ledgers and Balances
  • Liaising with and Guiding Clients directly in relation to Accounts Rules Compliance
  • Ad-hoc tasks as needed

Experience preferred:-

  • Previous book-keeping or accounting experience
  • Legal office environment experience
  • SOLAS qualification is highly desirable
  • Good knowledge of Excel is essential
  • I.T. skills along with a special interest in this area would be well regarded

Cashroom Solutions provide outsourced cashroom services to legal firms across Scotland.

Due to recent expansion we are looking for an experienced legal cashier to join our team based in Kirkcaldy.

The successful candidate will be expected to carry out the full range of cashroom duties.

Duties include:-

Daily posting

Setting up chaps and bacs payments

Bank reconciliation

Preparing Law Society Accounts Certificate.

Salary will depend on experience.

Senior Legal Cashier

The Role

Reporting directly to our Cashroom Partner, the Senior Cashier will be responsible for managing the Cashroom in a busy conveyancing department. The Senior Legal Cashier forms part of our Conveyancing Department.


  • Ensure best practice is followed in the Conveyancing Department
  • Develop and adapt the firm’s Cashroom processes
  • Training and providing ongoing guidance to members of the Conveyancing Department about Cashroom and financial compliance matters
  • Assisting with Anti-Money Laundering and Risk Assessment processes
  • Ensure that Fee Notes and Cash Accounts are prepared and sent on time
  • Manage a Cashroom Assistant
  • Maintain Client Account float
  • Transfer payment instructions from legal accounting software to online banking system
  • Create Month End Journals
  • Reconcile Client Bank Account daily
  • Perform and supervise any write-offs and credit notes
  • Alert Cashroom Partner to any potential breaches
  • Monitor and ensure no aged credit and debit balances
  • Prepare Accounts Certificate for the Law Society of Scotland
  • Perform ad-hoc tasks as requested by the Cashroom Partner


Essential qualities include:

  • significant previous experience in a similar role;
  • SOLAS qualification;
  • excellent written and spoken English skills;
  • superior numerical skills;
  • outstanding attention to detail;
  • excellent internal and external customer service skills;
  • ability to type and enter data quickly and accurately;
  • a positive attitude and great team working skills;
  • previous experience with financial systems knowledge.

Desirable qualifications include:

  • University graduate
  • Studying towards becoming a fully qualified Bookkeeper and/or an associated accountancy qualification
  • Experience of using Xero or similar accountancy software
